WTF is a gPotato?
Posted on August 21st, 2007 in MMORPG
gPotato? WTF could it possibly be? That is what was running through my mind just a few hours ago while I was scouring the web on my never-ending quest for epic knowledge. Now that I know exactly what a gPotato is, I’m pretty intrigued by the whole concept. The name is kind of corny, but now its branded into my mind, which is the goal of any, even half-baked, marketing campaign. So I’m sure by now you’re interested to know exactly wtf a gPotato is too. Here’s the rundown…
gPotato.com is an online portal to a collection of free to play MMORPG games. OMG Free?! Yes, free to play, but the twist is that you’re going to need a pocket full of gPotatos to acquire select in game items and upgrades. I’m not sure how many gPotatos constitutes a pocket full, but lucky for you they’re not tangible anyway. So basically a gPotato is a virtual unit of online currency that is cross compatible for any of the games you can play at gPotato.com. Some of the game titles you can expect to find in the gPotato realm include Flyff, Space Cowboy Online, Rappelz, Corum Online and Upshift StrikeRacer.
So you see its all starting to come together. Now you’re probably wondering, as I was earlier, who are the masterminds that cooked this system up? The company is called Gala-Net, a subsidiary of the global online community company Gala, Inc. They claim to be the leader in the free-to-play online games market, for now I’ll take their word for it.
